20/07/2016
At the event, which took place in Virginia at the end of June, Mr Haggerty was named as the winner of two ALCA awards.
He won the Alsop Award, established in 1939 in memory of the late W. K. Alsop, and presented “for outstanding scientific or technical contributions to the leather industry” The award was sponsored by Tannin Corporation until 2008. ALCA itself sponsored the award from 2008 until 2011 at which time the Lanxess became its new official sponsor.
Later in the evening, he was also named as the winner for 2016 of the Fred O’Flaherty Service Award, established by ALCA in 1973 to recognise members who have over a period of time made “significant contributions” to the association or to the leather and leather products industries through ALCA.
In the past, the O’Flaherty Service Award has sometimes been given to people who have previously won the Alsop Award. Jim Haggerty is the first person in the history of ALCA to win both awards in the same year.
