Alcanena must wait for new leather museum

19/07/2016
A proposed new leather museum for Portugal’s principal leather-producing municiplity, Alcanena, may have to wait another year before opening.

Local authorities in the town have said they have asked the country’s national science promotion agency to become involved in the project, to keep the proposed museum’s scientific content high.

A building to house the new museum has been in place for a number of years and there had been hopes to launch the project in 2015, during celebrations for Alcanena’s centenary, but the local authority was unable to secure sufficient funding.

In recent comments, council leader, Fernanda Asseiceira, said she hoped that, with input from the science promotion agency, the project could reach a successful conclusion in 2017.
