Brazil’s first-half leather exports are up in area but down in value

Brazilian tanners exported 99.8 million square-metres of finished leather, crust and wet blue in the first six months of 2016. This represents an increase of 9.8% compared to the first half of 2015.

Exports for the first half of 2016 brought in revenues of just over $1 billion, which is 15.8% less than export revenues for the corresponding period in 2015.

In terms of area, finished leather accounted for 56.6% of the total, crust 12.1% and wet blue 31.3%. In terms of value, finished leather contributed 60.7% of the total in the first six months of 2016. Wet blue contributed 24% of the total value and crust 11%.
