Trends and sustainability presentations at Lineapelle London

12/07/2016
Visitors to Lineapelle London in July had the chance to hear a detailed presentation on trends for the winter 2017-2018 fashion season, put together by the Lineapelle fashion trends committee, and delivered by fashion analyst Chiara Fantig.

Among a wide range of trends ideas that Ms Fantig raised, she mentioned that the idea of ‘beautiful but not perfect’ should be part of designers’ and brands’ thinking for the 2017-2018 season. In a follow-up discussion with World Leather, she said she is now certain consumers are ready and willing to accept this idea and said she thinks this is good news for tanners who want to emphasise the naturalness of their leathers and prefer not to mask all blemishes and natural marks on the hides they process.

Attendees also had the opportunity to hear a presentation on sustainability in the Italian leather industry from Sabrina Frontini, director of ICEC, the leather sector’s dedicated certification institute.  One of the subjects Ms Frontini raised was the distinction between ‘Made in Italy’ and ‘100% Made in Italy’. She explained that these terms can mean different things, depending on whether they refer to leather or to a finished product.

Details from both these presentations will feature in a special section on the luxury leathergoods sector that we will publish in the August-September issue of World Leather.
