Leather Pipeline report says an increase in demand for leather is unlikely
The July 12 edition of our exclusive Leather Pipeline Market Intelligence report highlights fears of growing vulnerabilities in the global leather industry.

According to the report, the decision in the June referendum for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union is beginning to have a negative effect on consumer confidence, and not just in the UK. It warns that this, coupled with ongoing concerns about the industry in China (and even suggestions that the long run of positive news from the automotive sector may change before the end of this year) leaves little room for optimism about a possible increase in demand for leather.

With regard to China, the report says there have been protests from the public in recent weeks about environmental issues and that some local authorities have ordered tanneries to close in response.
