Bad news for tanners in Uruguay as live cattle exports rise

11/07/2016
Exports of live cattle from Uruguay registered a 55% increase year on year in the first six months of 2016, the country’s ministry of agriculture has said.

Between January and June this year, livestock farmers shipped 118,279 head of cattle from Uruguay, with 77% of the total shipping to Turkey. The four other biggest markets were Egypt, Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina.

Industry observers in Uruguay have said the figures for the second half of the year could be affected by changes in import regulations in Turkey.
