Automotive group Audi has reported a 5.6% increase in sales in the first six months of 2016 compared to the same period last year, with 953,200 cars sold.

It said growth was especially strong in Europe, reaching sales of 450,000 vehicles, a record for the first six months of any year. This represents year-on-year growth of 8.4%. The company also said it was pleased with the sales performance of new models, the A4 and the Q7 full-size SUV.

In the Chinese market, sales increased by 5.9% to reach 290,126 vehicles.
