Slight fall in volume and value for Italian tanners

Italian tanning industry association UNIC unveiled performance statistics for the sector for 2015 at its annual assembly on June 28.

Tanners across Italy achieved a combined turnover of €5.2 billion in 2015, which represents a fall of 2.3% compared to the year before. In terms of volume, tanners produced 123.6 million square-metres of finished leather, a fall of 2.5% compared to 2014.

They also produced 26,447 tonnes of sole leather, which represents a steeper decline in volume, 18.7%, compared to the year before. Exports accounted for 77% of production by value.
