Volkswagen sales hold up despite emissions scandal

It delivered 495,900 units in May, compared to 499,500 units in the comparable month last year. Sales director, Jürgen Stackmann, pointed out that sales in China had grown and that the market launch of a new Tiguan model in Europe has been successful.
The brand delivered 229,800 vehicles in the North American region from January to May, representing a decline of 4.8% over the comparable period of the previous year. Specific to the US, Volkswagen sold 125,200 vehicles in May, which represents a decline of 13.1%. The company said developments in the Mexican market were “significantly more positive” and a sales record was reported in May for the fourth month in succession.
