Belgian tannery has new owners

Two entrepreneurs from France have taken over the Radermecker tannery in Comines-Warneton in Belgium.

Previous owner, André-Jean Radermecker, had run the facility for more than 60 years; his family founded the business in 1870. With Mr Radermecker now in his late 80s, he had expressed the desire to pass the business on several years ago, although emphasising that he was in no hurry.

Lille-based business men Nicolas Quintin and Loïc Honoré have emerged as the new owners and have said they want to keep the tannery going along traditional lines.

Radermecker is one of only two tanneries still working in Belgium; the other is the Tannerie Masure in Estaimbourg, which is partly owned by luxury group LVMH.
