Designer reaps the benefit of hoarding hides

Brazilian fashion designer Patricia Viera, famous for her leather clothing creations, suffered a broken bone in her foot in the build-up to the São Paulo Fashion Week at the end of April.

Unable to travel to the south of Brazilian to visit the tanners who supply her with materials she decided to go back through her stock of finished leather from previous seasons and make do with what she had to hand.

Hitting on Cuba as a theme, she had enough material to make a collection featuring colourful dresses, A-line skirts and tops with thin straps in time for the event.

In comments to local media at the time, Ms Viera said she had reaped the benefit of holding onto leather she doesn’t use. “I never sell it or give it away,” she said.
