Colombia brings back ban on raw hides

The Colombian government has reintroduced a ban on exports of raw hides out of concern that the country’s own tanners and finished product manufacturers lack the raw material they require.

A representative of the ministry of commerce, César Peñaloza, said in recent comments to local media said that certain parts of the leather value chain in Colombia the paucity of raw material had been a real problem.

He said that exports of raw hides from Colombia had increased by 332% over the last five years.
