New blog entry: expect consolidation

Leatherbiz columnist David Peters has said the leather industry should expect a series of mergers and acquisitions in the leather sector in the coming months, prompted, in his view, by a lack of certainty over the future of some parts of the industry.

In his blog column for April, which you can read in full at this link, Mr Peters said news of a possible bid
from handbag design and manufacturing company Simone to buy automotive leather producer GST Autoleather had caught his attention. Reports from South Korea in March said Simone and private equity firm MBK Partners wanted to acquire the tanning group and had already signed a memorandum of understanding with GST’s owners, Advantage Partners.

This acquisition is not yet confirmed, but David Peters said he expects “additional consolidation of various leather-related enterprises” to surface in the coming months. “Nothing motivates the seller better than a challenging outlook for the future,” he explained.
