“Sustained demand” drives leathergoods growth for Hermès

Luxury group Hermès has reported revenues for 2015 of  more than €4.8 billion, an increase of 18% year on year. Earnings from this were more than €1.5 billion, an increase of 19% compared to 2014.

It will release figures for its individual business units at a later date, but it said in its initial release that revenues at its leathergoods and saddlery division grew by 13% in 2015, which suggests a figure of almost €2.1 billion.

Hermès said this growth was driven by “sustained demand” and the increase in production capacities at two new sites in Isère and Charente, and a new workshop in Franche-Comté (all in France). It said investment in a second production site in Franche-Comté is ongoing.

These new sites helped Hermès increase its workforce by 500 people in 2015. The group now employs a total of 12,244 people, more than 60% of whom work in France.
