Haining-based tanning group Zhejiang Kasen Industrial has opened a new tannery in the city of Suqian, Jiangsu province.

Suqian has a recently develped High-Tech Zone for new manufacturing projects and it is from here that the new Kasen tannery will operate.

Its initial focus will be on automotive leather, with estimates that the new tannery will have an output of more than 35 million square-metres per year, destined for car seats for original equipment manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Ford, Audi, Mercedes and Range Rover.

Reports quoted by the China Leather Industry Association suggest Kasen has already invested around $75 million in the new production facility, but that it is prepared to invest a further $375 million to set up a furniture leather and sofa manufacturing operation at the Suqian High-Tech Zone.
