Xeros will complete polymer bead trials in tannery by mid-year

22/03/2016
Specialist technology provider Xeros, which believes it can use its patented polymer bead solutions largely to replace water as the medium for delivering leather chemicals to hides in tanneries, has published interim results for the last five months of 2015. Xeros has changed its accounting reference dates, hence the interim reporting period here.

Over those five months, revenues increased to £744,000, compared to £95,000 for the same months in 2014.

Despite the company’s main early commercial focus being on the laundry business, with 200 installations of its polymer-bead laundry system in place by the end of February 2016, Xeros said on releasing its results that its interest in the leather industry remains keen.

In a statement it said full-scale leather processing trials are continuing at “a leading European tannery”. Xeros said these trials are part of a joint development agreement with leather chemicals manufacturer Lanxess. The two companies signed this agreement in May 2015.

Chief executive, Mark Nichols, said in the statement: “Our full-scale [tannery] trials are on track and are scheduled to be completed around the middle of the year. We anticipate that these trials will show that our polymer beads, which were specifically designed for this application, deliver economic, operational and sustainability improvements. Studies to identify new potential applications are also progressing on schedule and are providing further evidence that we possess a platform technology.”
