Declines in Pakistan’s leather exports continue

Results for January show that Pakistan’s total leather sector exports fell by 25% during the first seven months of current financial year (July 2015-January 2016), dropping to $590 million.

Tanners in Pakistan exported 9.4 million square-metres of finished leather, with a value of $292.4 million, over the seven-month period. These figures represent a decline of almost 30% in volume and of 28% in value.

Exports of leathergoods, gloves and garments were worth $367.9 million in the first seven months of this financial year, a drop of 13.4%.

Over the same period, there were exports of 6.8 million pairs of shoes, with a value of $77.5 million. Leather shoes contributed $50.5 million to this total. Volumes fell by 9.3% year on year and values by 21.1%.
