Chemtan comes up with a new method for keeping iron stains out of leather
14/03/2016
R-20 is a chelate, a product that bonds in a particular way to metals; in this case, it is a blend of polyphosphate and alkali metal salts that helps prevent discolouration by “sequestering” iron, Chemtan has explained.
According to the manufacturer, R-20 is compliant with restricted substance lists and is REACH-registered. Chemtan has claimed it is 65% more efficient than common synthetic chelates such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and is especially useful in “heavy-extract retans”. The product is safe for use on waterproof leathers and can help tanners produce “clean, bright colours”, it has said.
