Value of finished leather exports from Bangladesh falls by one-third

During the first seven months of the current financial year (July 2015 to January 2016), Bangladesh’s export revenue for leather and related products fell by1.2% compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching $663 million, the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has said.

Finished leather exports had a value of $161.9 million, while the values for leathergoods and leather shoes were $204 million and $297 million respectively.

The figure for finished leather represents a decline of more than 33% and that for leather footwear is flat, but those the figure for leathergoods shows substantial growth, 56%.

Bangladesh’s government has set an export target of $1.4 billion for the leather sector in financial year 2015-16.
