Maria Sole Ferragamo wins Consorzio’s young designer award
02/03/2016
The Consorzio had collections from ten young designers from all over the world on display at the February edition of Lineapelle in Milan as part of the competition, which it calls ‘Craft The Leather’. All collections used Italian veg-tanned leather as their main material.
A panel of judges later named Ms Ferragamo as the winner, praising the cutting-edge she was able to bring to a collection of tradition women’s garments: a bustier, a reeve for the neck and a farthingale skirt support.
Maria Sole Ferragamo graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in 2013, after which she moved to London to study jewellery design. She is about to conclude the second and last year of a master’s in this discipline at Central Saint Martin’s, part of London’s University of the Arts, and will show her final collection in June. She is exploring the use of leather remnants from the fashion industry for the creation of jewellery for the luxury market.
