EU support for Pakistan’s leather sector expands

Technical support is now in place from experts from the European Union (EU) to help leathergoods manufacturers from Pakistan enhance their share of the local market.

The leather industry in Pakistan has calculated that producers there have a share of only $14 million per year out of a total global leathergoods market of $19 billion.

As part of a wider EU-funded initiative called the Pakistan Leather Competitiveness
Improvement Programme, local companies have until March 14 to take part in training sessions that are aimed at helping them set up new finished leathergoods operations, branding activities and advice on attending international industry events.

Finance for the programme comes from the EU’s Trade Related Technical Assistance fund.
