Government ministers in Argentina have lent their support to a plan for new owners to take over Sadesa’s tannery in Las Toscas in Santa Fe province in north-eastern Argentina.

Sadesa announced the closure of the plant at the end of January but, since then, ministers have held meetings with representatives of the local authorities, the 300 or so people who worked there, trade unions and an unnamed firm that, according to reports in Argentina, is preparing to take the business over as a going concern.
