Pakistan’s new leather export promotion body to imitate India’s

Pakistan’s minister for commerce, Khurram Dastgir Khan, has agreed to a request from the country’s main leather industry body, the Pakistan Tanners’ Association (PTA), to establish a new Leather Export Promotion Council.

Mr Khan made the announcement that the second Pakistan Mega leather Fair 2016 in Lahore at the end of January.

Later, PTA chairman, Gulzar Firoz, said the new council would have members representing footwear, leather garments and gloves. Significantly, he added that a private company in Pakistan had put up funding to allow a delegation representing all these sectors to carry out a detailed study of how India’s Leather Export Promotion Council works with a view to emulating it.
