A conference concluding the “Future for European Leather” project, run throughout 2015 by the industry’s representative body in Europe, COTANCE, and trade union organisation industriAll, took place in Brussels on February 2.

Sixty public and private stakeholders of the leather sector attended the one-day event at which industriAll and COTANCE jointly presented a new manifesto. This four-page document summarises the conclusions of the seminars held throughout 2015 covering industrial developments, social affairs, trade issues and environmental matters.

“It turns the sector’s main concerns into clear objectives for ensuring growth and jobs in the European leather sector,” the two partner organisations said of the manifesto after the Brussels event. “It was a day of intensive exchanges and networking that all participants welcomed.”

At the conclusion of the conference, delegates agreed that the next step should be to develop the manifesto into “a fully-fledged action plan with timetables, listing concrete initiatives and identifying the public and private stakeholders willing to contribute to their realisation”.
