Turkish leathergoods sector searches for new markets as relations with Russia sour

The president of the Turkish Leathergoods Exporters’ Union, Mustafa Senocak, has said his member companies are preparing for an intense effort to build up business in new markets in 2016 following the collapse of their business with customers in Russia.

Turkish leather-sector exports to Russia were worth $500 million in 2014 but suffered towards the end of last year because of political disputes between the two countries.

Now Turkish leathergoods manufacturers are turning their attention to markets such as the US, Japan, Korea and a growing number of European countries. A new campaign involving the setting up of dedicated export teams, as well as press and television advertising.
