Colombia’s national statistics authority DANE has given details of increasing monthly growth for the country’s manufacturing sector towards the end of 2015 and has said it believes growth in 2016 will be even stronger, with the leather sector one of the areas of the economy that are leading the way.

After a faltering start to 2015, Colombia’s manufacturing sector began to register monthly growth around the middle of the year. Growth figures, compared to the same months in 2014, were 1.5% in June, 0.3% in July, 2.6% in August, 2% in September and 1.3% in October. And DANE has just announced a figure of 4.8% for November.

Turning his attention to this year, Colombia’s minister for CHECK, Mauricio Cárdenas, has said the manufacturing sector will be the one that gives the country’s economic growth the biggest boost in 2016.
