Vietnam’s prime minister, Nguyên Tân Dung, has included leather and footwear among the sectors he hopes will grow in 2016. He listed them among the areas of the Vietnamese economy from which he wants increased export revenues this year.

Mr Nguyên addressed a large-scale conference on the country’s economic performance for 2015 in Hanoi on December 31.

At the same conference, the government said Vietnam’s industrial output grew in value by 9.8% in 2015. Export revenues increased by 8.1% year on year to reach an estimated $162.4 billion. Across all industrial sectors, the government has set an export revenue target of $178 billion for 2016, which would represent growth of 9.6%.
