In the first ten months of 2015, tanners and traders in the US exported just under 22.5 million hides, which brought in export revenues of just over $1.9 billion.

Of these hides, wet blue accounted for 28.7% of the volume and 34.5% of the value, with fresh and wet salted hides making up the rest.

Overall, the figures represent a fall in volume of 19.3% and a decline in value of 17.4% compared to the same period, January-October, in 2014.

These statistics came from the US Hide, Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA).
