New blog entry: the state of the relationship between hide buyers and sellers
05/01/2016
In his monthly column for January, Mr Peters presents his view of the current state of the relationship between tanners and hide sellers.
In an imagined dialogue between a buyer and seller of hides, David Peters outlines the major changes that he has observed in the dynamics of trading relationships between tanners and their raw material suppliers over the last 12 months or so. He makes it clear that fall-out from the disruption caused by the West Coast ports labour dispute, which ended (after nine months) in February 2015 is still in evidence.
The column, which you can read in full here, also makes it clear that sellers are having difficulty in holding buyers to existing agreements, while some buyers are having difficulty securing sufficient credit from banks.
What also comes over clearly, though, is that buyers and sellers still need each other and are still likely to find a way of working together.
