Correction to Mato Grosso slaughter stats, but numbers still down on 2014

01/12/2015
A beef farming industry body in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, Indea, has revised previously published statistics on cattle slaughter there in the first ten months of the year. Indea has given a new figure of just under 3.9 million head for the period, compared to an earlier figure of just over 3.7 million.

Indea said it had made the adjustment after finding a discrepancy in the way the figures were calculated between January and August this year. Nevertheless, the 2015 statistics still show a substantial decline in slaughter compared to the same period in 2014.

In the first ten months of 2014, abattoirs in Mato Grosso slaughtered more than 4.6 million head of cattle, which means the figure for the same period this year represents a decline of more than 15%.
