Vietnam on track to meet leather exports target

Vietnam’s main leather footwear and accessories industry body, Lefaso, has said the industry is confident it will meet a government export target for this year of $2.8 billion.

Its vice-chairman, Diep Thanh Kiet, said the sectors exports had already brought in $2.5 billion by mid-November.

For the first ten months of the year, the US imported leather shoes and accessories with a value of $1 billion from Vietnam, which represents a year-on-year increase of 15.8%. The corresponding figures from January-October 2015 for the European Union and Japan are $616 million and $253 million, respectively up by 12.8% and 9.8% compared to the same period last year.
