Tyson to close two prepared food plants

The company said 880 jobs will be affected but said it would encourage employees at the two plants to apply for positions elsewhere in the company. It said changing product needs, the age of both facilities and the prohibitive cost of their renovation were the main reasons behind its decision, but it said the distance between the Chicago plant and its raw material supply base was also a problem.
