Peru’s minister for manufacturing, Piero Ghezzi Solís, is moving ahead with plans to set up a new innovation centre for leather and footwear in El Porvenir, the district of the city of Trujillo that is home to the country’s largest cluster of leather-sector companies.

In mid-November, the mayor of El Porvenir, Paúl Rodríguez Armas, formally handed over a plot of land to the minister for the construction of the innovation centre, in which the government will invest more than $3.5 million.

On making the announcement, Mr Ghezzi said: “This new innovation centre will benefit 3,000 companies in the tanning and footwear sector in this region, giving them access to ever-better specialised services at the same time as promoting technological innovation and the development of production chains.”
