Poor start to new financial year for leather exports in Pakistan

17/11/2015
Pakistan’s leather-sector exports for the first quarter of the current financial year (July-September 2015) fell in value by 18.6% to $258.6 million.

Finished leather exports over the three-month period brought in $96.9 million, while leathergoods and leather footwear achieved export earnings of $135.5 million and $26.1 million respectively. These figures show declines of 21.6%, 14.5% and 27% respectively.

Commentators in Pakistan have said the figures for the month of September on its own showed some sign of improvement, although even here there was quite a steep decline for leather footwear.
