Duret follows Hermès to Franche-Comté

The head of a local business leaders’ group in Franche-Comté in eastern France, Daniel Jakubzak, has said luxury leathergoods manufacturing projects in the region have helped balance the local economy.

In recent comment to local media, Mr Jakubzak said the economy in this part of eastern France had become too dependent on the automotive industry and that leathergoods production was proving to be an excellent alternative. Hermès has opened one production facility there, in Seloncourt, and will open a second before the end of 2016, he said, creating 350 new jobs.

Moreover, he said another Paris-based, high-end, luxury, handmade leathergoods brand, Duret, was following Hermès’s example and will also bring part of its production to Franche-Comté, in this case to the town of Bart, near Besançon.
