A prominent fashion retail figure in the UK has said suede is a key focus for the current season, hinting that lower prices of splits in recent months may have helped suede appear affordable as well as attractive to mainstream fashion brands.

Speaking on a BBC radio programme at the start of November, Carol Kane, co-founder and joint chief executive of Manchester-based online fashion company Boohoo, said her most successful products this season were garments and footwear made from suede. She said: “The best-performing areas that we are having this season are with suede. Long coats, tassels, suede boots, over-the-knee boots, suede skirts are absolutely fantastic.”

Boohoo focuses mainly on women customers between the ages of 16 and 25 and is on course to turn over almost £200 million this year, Ms Kane said.
