Turkey gives figures for cattle, sheep and goat herds

Turkey’s ministry of agriculture has given herd sizes for the animals whose hides and skins provide almost all of the country’s tanneries with raw material.

At present, Turkey has 14.2 million head of cattle, 31.1 million head of sheep and 10.3 million head of goat.

Although the ministry has said these figures represent an increase compared to levels of three years ago, critics have claimed a country with the space, infrastructure and climate of Turkey should have a higher livestock population.
