New leather technology course launches in Alcanena

Portuguese leather research and training body Centro Tecnológico das Indústrias do Couro (CTIC) has begun a new higher diploma course in leather technology and the art of leather this academic year.

Starting earlier in October, a group of eight students became the pioneers of the new course, attending classes at CTIC’s facility in Alcanena from 6.30 in the evening, after the day’s work. CTIC has said it hopes more students will join the course in the coming weeks.

Course co-ordinator, Paula Portugal, said she was confident the classes would go well. “The people we have signed up are already working in leather,” she said, “and already have a very good idea of what constitutes quality.”

Students are being asked to pay €600 per academic year for the two-year course, with six months’ industry training included.
