French tannery investing up to 15% of turnover on environment

The chief executive of one of France’s biggest tanneries, Les Tanneries du Puy, Jean-Marie Gigante, has told French media that he wants the facility to become renouned for the care it takes over environmental management as well as for the quality of its finished leather.

During a visit to the tannery in Le Puy-en-Velay in Auvergne by local politicians in mid-October, Mr Gigante said his company was willing to invest in environmental management and said it was spending between 12% and 15% of turnover now managing waste from its production.
