US hide exports down in volume and value in first eight months

In the first eight months of 2015, tanners and traders in the US exported more than 18 million hides, which brought in export revenues of just over $1.6 billion.

Of these hides, wet blue accounted for 29% of the total of the volume and 20.2% of the value, with fresh and wet salted hides making up the rest.

The figures represent a fall in volume of 22.2% and a decline in value of 14.2% compared to the same period in 2014.
