August cattle slaughter lowest in six months in Mato Grosso

New figures suggest the decline in cattle slaughter in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso is intensifying. In August 2015, abattoirs in the important meat-producing state registered slaughter numbers of 276,000 head, the lowest monthly figure in the last six months and 29% down on the previous month, July 2015.

Meat industry commentators have suggested farmers are holding cattle back from slaughter owing to a fall in the prices they have been able to command in recent months.
