Leather imports on the increase in Bolivia

Bolivia is beoming increasingly dependent on imports of footwear and of leather, a new study has revealed, with China the source of half of the shoes imported into the South American country at the moment and of 82% of imported leather.

Between 2010 and 2014, the study, which was carried out by the Bolivian Institute for External Trade (IBCE), shows that the value of footwear imports into Bolivia increased by 94%, reaching $53.7 million last year.

In 2014, the value of leather imported into Bolivia was small at $12.5 million, but this still represents an increase of 64% compared to the figure for 2010.
