New blog entry: what we need for a sustained rebound for leather
Leatherbiz has published a new blog entry from regular columnist David Peters.
In his monthly column for August, entitled ‘Ball of Confusion’, Mr Peters makes the point that “a sustained rebound” in the use of leather in finished products could come about in future seasons, but for this to happen, a number of conditions will have to be met.
In the blog entry, which you can read in full here, Mr Peters explains that important contributory factors for a rebound to happen include hide prices remaining sufficiently attractive “to encourage leather re-contenting in footwear, orderly trading between buyers and sellers across the industry, tanners in China having sufficient liquidity to continue to operate and finished product brands resisting the attraction of synthetic substitute materials being cheap thanks to low oil prices.
He says that if at least three of the above conditions a rebound for leather can be sustained, but that otherwise any rebound will be limited.
