Leather Council will help Turkey hit $500 billion in exports
The president of the Turksh Leather Council, Erdal Matras, has said his member companies can help the overall Turkish economy achieve a goal of bringing in export revenues of $500 billion by 2023. The figure for 2014 was $157.6 billion.

Mr Matras, who is also managing director of his own leather apparel and accessories brand, said there are three main reasons why theTurkish leather sector can be confident of growth.

In a recent interview, he said the leather industry is more established in Turkey than practically anywhere else in the world, with statutes governing the supply of hides and skins to tanners dating as far back as 1461.

Then he said the companies active in the sector today in Turkey are “experienced, talented, and technologically advanced”. In addition to this, the country has a young population and strong labour capacity. He also said Turkey’s position on the world map, located between Asia and Europe, is another strong advantage.
