GSC says its new product takes care of formaldehyde more effectively

GSC’s new product is called Chimin H2 and the company describes it as “an organic formaldehyde scavenger”.
The Montebello-based company says Chimin H2 will allow tanners to reduce the amount of formaldehyde produced during retanning. It says existing methods for doing this are based on inorganic salts, in which the chemical bond is not stable. This means the process of eliminating formaldehyde, using the methods in place at the moment, is reversible and the formaldehyde can go back in the leather.
In contrast, Chimin H2 forms a stable compound with formaldehyde which is easily eliminated in a final wash. It is non-toxic and easily handled, GSC said in the build-up to the Shanghai event. A dosage of 1% of Chimin H2 in a 40-minute wash with 100% float at 30 degrees Celsius at the end of retanning or fatliquoring is all the treatment required, the company has claimed.
In addition, GSC will present a new leather fashion collection in Shanghai. It has developed the collection in collaboration with “important Italian and Japanese stylists”.
