Artistic venue for third Future for European Leather seminar
16/07/2015
Following successful events in Bucharest in April and in Paris in June, this third seminar will focus on trade issues that are affecting the leather industry at the moment and are likely to continue to do so in the years ahead.
The local leather industry in Portugal has arranged to host the seminar in a very unusual location, the Artspace studio and exhibition rooms that specialist leather artist João Carvalho runs near Alcanena.
A qualified tanner in his own right, having studied at the German leather training school in Reutlingen in the 1980s, João Carvalho is a member of the Carvalho family that runs the Couro Azul and António Nunes de Carvalho tanneries in the area.
Some of João Carvalho’s unusual leather sculptures featured in an article entitled ‘The Eternal Nude’ in World Leather in October-November 2014.
On making the announcement about the Portuguese event, COTANCE also announced that the fourth seminar in the series, which will take place in December 2015, will be in Glasgow rather than London.
