FEDIC hopeful for new Moroccan clusters

Moroccan tanning industry federation FEDIC has said it hopes new clusters, grouping tanners together with suppliers and finished leather product manufacturers, may start functioning in October.

New FEDIC president, Hamid Benrhrido, attended a meeting with government representatives on July 7 and said afterwards that a study group will start the task in the next few weeks of looking into the best way to set the clusters up.

He said these studies would be complete before the end of September and that work could begin on putting the ideas into practice the following month.

“If we organise ourselves into clusters, we’ll be able to increase investment in the leather sector, grow our exports, create new jobs and, above all, bring informal operators into the organised leather sector,” Mr Benrhrido explained after the meeting.
