Argentina: packers blame low hide prices for abattoir closures

Falling hide prices have contributed to temporary shut-downs of abattoirs in Argentina, according to meat exporters’ association ABC.

In comments at the start of July, ABC said hide prices have fallen by 40% in the course of this year and that this, coupled with what it called a “lack of competitiveness” in meat export markets, had caused some of its member companies to halt slaughter at a number of abattoirs.
