Audi calls SUV “boom” a global trend
Premium automotive brand Audi sold 153,850 cars in the course of May 2015, an increase of 1.2% on its figures for May 2014.

As well as an upcoming model change for its top-seller, the A4, one of the factors that the company said had kept growth modest was “the current reticence to buy in the Chinese luxury segment”. There were sales of 47,410 Audi cars in China, including Hong Kong, in May 2015, a decrease of 1.6% compared to the same month last year.

In the first five months of this year, Audi sold a cumulative total of 744,900 vehicles, an increase of 4.3% compared to the same five months in 2014. And the five-month figures for the Chinese market are also positive, with sales of 226,022 vehicles, an increase of 3.7%.

Audi said it was particularly pleased with its sales in the Americas. In the first five months of the year, sales are up by 11.7% in the US (75,353 vehicles), by 4.7% in Mexico (5,333 vehicles) and by 32.7% in Brazil (7,158 vehicles).

Commenting after the release of the May results, Audi’s sales and marketing director, Luca de Meo, said: “We are currently seeing a great many contrasting developments in the markets; the SUV boom is, however, a uniform global trend. Sporty off-roaders are growing more strongly than the market in all regions.”
