Uruguay’s National Statistics Institute (INE) registered a decline in industrial activity in the first quarter of 2015.

Figures for January, February and March 2015 show a downturn of 5.9% in the number of hours worked in Uruguayan factories across all sectors compared to the same months in 2014. It said the statistics suggested the lowest level of activity and of industrial employment in Uruguayan manufacturing in almost a decade.

INE registered a decline in hours worked in 13 out of 19 of the industrial sectors it monitors. The fall in industrial activity in the tanning industry was 13.8%.
